The forecast report does not include any constraints to cover the demand
At the national meeting, which brought together the various managers of the business subsidiaries (SPE/ SKTM/ GRTE/ SDC) that was held on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Ben Aknoun Training Center, situation reports on the measures implemented in the production, transmission and distribution of electricity to ensure a smooth transition from the summer period, were presented. Preparations are well advanced and demand for electricity projected for the period from May to next September would be satisfied.
Demand forecasts for summer 2019 transition are based on an MRP (Maximum Requested Power), at the National Interconnected Network (NIN), for summer 2019, of 15 000 MW at seasonal temperatures (peak day) and 16 000 MW at exceptional temperatures, compared to 13,676 MW recorded in summer 2018, representing a 10% and 17% increase respectively. At the Centre of In Salah / Adrar / Timimoun (CIAT), the planned MRP for summer 2019 is 370 MW compared to 342 MW recorded during the 2018 summer, representing an increase of 8%. The Greater South Networks (GSN) concern 33 production sites, totaling an expected MRP of 408 MW for the summer of 2019, compared to 347 MW recorded for the summer of 2018, an increase of 18%.
In the summary presented by the Energy Industries Sector Supervisor, the plan for the 2019 financial year, taken from the program already planned for the medium term, provides for an additional capacity of 2,358 MW for the NIN, 136 MW for the CIAT and 291 MW for the GSN, of which 1,912 MW respectively, 34 MW AND 178 MW to be completed before the summer of 2019, to ensure reasonable coverage of electricity demand during this summer period. With regard to the transmission of electricity, 136 line structures and HV substations are planned in order to be able to evacuate the energy produced under the best quality of service conditions, including 86 priority ones planned for the summer of 2019. As for the distribution of electricity, the 2019 annual action plan consists in producing and commissioning 358 MT / LV substations and 2,773 km of MV / LV lines.
Construction rates of this plan are variable. However, the supply-demand forecast provides no constraints for demand coverage for both the seasonal and the high-temperature scenarios for the three networks. A satisfactory reserve is even considered.
Speaking at this meeting, the Energy Minister noted that it was organized to ensure that all the requirements are available to ensure the satisfaction of the demand for electricity, in the national territory, during the holy month of Ramadan and the next summer season. In view of the figures presented, Mr. Mohamed Arkab said that the results are satisfactory. With regard to electricity generation in particular, he specified that the planned installed capacity will be sufficient to cover the expected demand during the summer of 2019. Addressing the various officials present at this group, the Energy Minister insisted on continuing and intensifying efforts aiming to ensure continuity of service and thus live up to our public service mission.
